Mask 'n Peel

Duncan

Technique Description: Mask 'n Peel® is a water-based emulsion made to protect design areas or colors when you're applying another color near the same area. It works both under and between underglazes, glazes and acrylic colors. It's especially good if you're a beginning ceramist as you learn color and brush control.

Additional Information:

Mask 'n Peel® is a water-based emulsion made to protect design areas or colors when you're applying another color near the same area. It works both under and between underglazes, glazes and acrylic colors. It's especially good if you're a beginning ceramist as you learn color and brush control.

Trace your design on the surface of your piece.

Step 2: Apply Mask 'n Peel
Dampen your brush with AS 952 Brush Cleaner and squeeze out excess. This conditions your brush.

Apply 1 good coat of Mask 'n Peel to the design area you want to protect. Allow it to dry completely before applying color over it. A heavy application will dry faster on the surface before drying underneath.

Step 4: Remove Mask 'n Peel
To remove Mask 'n Peel, lift the corner of the masked area with your fingernail or a tool, and use your fingertips to gently roll the mask toward the area rather than away from it. In this way, the mask can generally be removed in one piece. Always check for any small particles that may be left behind.
