Stippling

Duncan

Technique Description: The Stippling Technique is a way of applying color by pouncing the tip of your BR 592 No. 10 Deerfoot Stippler brush loaded with color against the ware. This technique works great to create realistic foliage, flowers, grasses, cloud and water effects, and highlighting and shading.

It can be used with both underglazes and nonfired acrylic colors.

Step 1: Trace pattern
Trace the pattern onto the piece.
Step 2: Apply basecoat
Apply the base coat color.
Step 3: Pounce color
Load the Deerfoot Stippler brush with a darker underglaze color. Hold the brush between your thumb and forefinger, letting the handle rest on your middle finger. Hold the brush at a slight angle toward you and use a quick up-and-down motion to stipple or pounce the color onto the ware.
Step 4: Outline design
To finish the design, we outlined with the SB 802 No. 1 Liner brush.
Step 5: Apply clear glaze
Apply clear glaze to piece.
