Texturizing Technique

Duncan

Technique Description: Add fun texture to smooth bisque with this easy Texturizing Technique. The surprise ingredient to create natural texture for nonfired acrylic colors is baby powder!

Step 1: Apply basecoat
Apply the base coat OS Opaque Acrylic color (we used OS 481 Cinnamon).
Apply basecoat
Step 2: Create textured color
To create the textured color, mix the acrylic color with baby powder (50% color to 50% baby powder) to create a thick paste.

Step 3: Spread mixture on piece
Spread the mixture on the frame with a palette knife. Let dry.

Step 4: Antique piece
Antique the textured frame with a TS Translucent Stain to accentuate the textured surface (the deeper color stays in the crevices for natural shading). We used TS 564 Brown.

Step 5: Wipe back
Wipe back stain with cloth or paper towel.

Step 6: Highlight raised area
Highlight the raised areas of the texture by drybrushing with lighter colors. We used OS 440 Burnt Orange.
